Students from various schools in the city enacted different literary narrative forms at the Welham Boys’ School here on Wednesday. The school hosted the 4th Varun Puri memorial inter school English story-telling contest for the junior school.
The contest saw participation of students from classes IV, V and VI, and ten city schools like The Asian School and Kasiga School.
The students of Class IV narrated humorous stories, while the students of Class V told fables and Class VI students narrated horror stories using colourful, appropriate and scary props and puppets to mesmerize the audience.
One of the winners, Virat Singh from the host school, said, “This is the first time I participated. It is important that we all take part in such story-telling contests because it not only develops our skills to narrate, but also sends out important messages.”
The contest was instituted in the memory of an ex-school captain Varun Puri by the school’s principal Gunmeet Bindra. Puri was a voracious leader and represented Welham Boys’ school in various activities and events. His father, Rajeev Puri, who was also present, had sponsored the prizes for the story-telling contest.
